As part of the program to eliminate digital inequality (EDI), by the end of 2024, Rostelecom PJSC connected more than 7,000 small settlements to the Internet and more than 5,000 to 4G mobile communications. "3G technology was needed until LTE became capable of transmitting voice. As soon as that happened, 3G became meaningless," Denis Kuskov noted.
"The gradual abandonment of 3G and refarming are underway. We can say that during 2025-2026, 3G technology in Russia will become a thing of the past and will be replaced by 4G. The departure of the technology will free up frequencies and lead to better use of the frequency spectrum, which is why both refarming and their conversion have become a mass phenomenon. This is the right approach, and it produces results. However, if we are talking about problems, then no one has them as such anywhere," concluded leading analyst of Mobile Research Group Eldar Murtazin.
