Large technology companies will also not be able to give priority to their own products in search engines and will have to allow users to purchase products from other companies' websites.
The DMA also foresees restrictions on personalized advertising (the same that denmark number data fills the coffers of companies like Google and Meta to the brim). From 2023, users will have to give their explicit consent on how companies collect and manage their personal data. In addition, the rule prohibits companies from combining personal data obtained through multiple services (Facebook and WhatsApp simultaneously, for example) unless they have the express consent of the user.
Under the new Digital Markets Act, messaging services of large companies will also have to demonstrate their compatibility with smaller platforms.
The obligations arising from the DMA will be binding on companies with a market value of at least 75 billion euros. If companies evade these obligations, they could be fined up to 20% of their annual turnover or even be broken up by Brussels.
