the job fair online. I took part in it in 2020. It was the time of restrictions caused by the pandemic, so the entire event took place online. At that time, I wanted to change my job – find another one, in an international environment, with the possibility of using my knowledge of English. Previously, I had only worked in Polish companies. I was taking part in a language course at the time and an ad promoting Talent Days flashed before my eyes.

Talent Days: You took part in facebook data
Talent Days with a specific goal and expectations. Many people decide to come to job fairs because they are an opportunity to meet interesting employers from many industries and to get a feel for the job market. In your case, it was a bit different. Were you looking for a company in a specific industry or were you open to something new?

Agnieszka: I was interested in the economic and financial industry because I had been involved in it before. I had worked in insurance for 4 years. I certainly had a certain orientation. I had heard of BNY Mellon before, but I didn't do much research before the meeting. I knew that it was a leader in investment banks worldwide. I wanted to get a job in the best possible place, so I was determined to do well during the first interview.

Talent Days: What were you looking for in a future employer? What was important to you?

Agnieszka: First of all, I wanted it to be a company that is a leader in the industry. I knew that this would ensure my continuous development and that I would be able to learn from the best – experienced experts. The second most important factor for me was the atmosphere in the company. I had a recruitment interview with my potential (and now current) manager and one of the analysts from the team I currently work in. The atmosphere during the meeting turned out to be great, so I knew that by getting this job, I would be in the right place.

Talent Days: Did you feel after the interview that you would get the job?

Agnieszka: Honestly, I thought no. I remember the meeting very positively, although of course these types of interviews are always a bit stressful. I didn't feel like I had made any mistakes, but I didn't appreciate myself enough and I thought I had too little experience. I was also afraid that the course of study I had completed, Polish philology, might be a barrier. It's not related to finance, accounting or economics, which are the topics that the job in this position would revolve around. Three days after the recruitment interview, I got a phone call with a positive decision and... I was very pleasantly surprised!

Talent Days: What was the recruitment process like? Were there any difficult questions?

Agnieszka: After submitting my application, the very next day I received a call from the recruitment department with an invitation to an interview. I also received a very detailed email with guidelines – what I could expect at the interview and how I could prepare. Most of the interview consisted of questions about ideas for solving sample situations that could be encountered in this position. It seems to me that both my manager and I have a similar assumption that certain things can be learned very quickly and that work culture and beliefs are extremely important.
