@brandname.nl or [email protected] . With the new message functionality for pages, these problems will hopefully be a thing of the past.

There is however one important 'but'. The first message must be initiated by the fan himself and pages can only respond once after each message. Administrators can therefore not start emailing fans without being asked, but can only respond to the messages that fans send. A smart move by Facebook, which prevents page administrators from using this functionality as an brother cell phone list email marketing channel. Administrators who do not want all that virtual mail can also disable the option for sending page messages. I expect that the new message functionality will be an important step in the use of Facebook for webcare purposes. However, time will tell.

And what about my apps?
Another important aspect of the new page we haven't covered yet: what will change with my custom tabs ( read: apps )? As I mentioned before, these have been given a new place next to the page information at the top of your fan page. But more has changed. If you previously viewed a Facebook custom tab, you remained within the fixed outline of your fan page. If you now view a custom tab - such as your welcome tab - it opens in a new window . In our opinion, the importance of the custom tabs will therefore be slightly less. And not unimportant: the well-known welcome tab will be eliminated. I expect that this development will make the Timeline apps - that is, applications that fans actually place on their personal Timeline, such as Spotify - much more important for brands on Facebook in the near future.

In addition to the location of the custom tabs, the size has also been adjusted. Where the custom tabs of your fan page were previously limited to a width of 520 pixels, in the new Timeline they can have a size of 810 pixels wide. The same as that of the standalone canvas app. The positive aspect is of course that creatives and marketers literally get a larger “canvas” to activate fans via apps.
