What types of trademarks exist?

Nowadays, there are a multitude of products and services on the market. As time goes by and new companies are developed and created, competition in the market grows due to the infinite number of similar and sometimes substitute products that exist. For this reason, it is necessary for companies to differentiate themselves so that, in addition to trying to be unique in the market, they can provide added value to the public. What is a brand?
A trademark is a distinctive sign whose main function is to differentiate and make a company's products and/or services unique compared to the rest of the competition in the market. This distinctive sign may consist of an image, a word, a sound or a mixture of these elements.

What types of brands exist?
Denominative
This is the most traditional type of trademark, as it is a trademark made up exclusively of words, letters, digits or other typographic characters. This type includes arbitrary or fantasy names, company names, pseudonyms and proper names, numbers, letters, etc.

Charts

These are trademarks consisting of a sound or a combination of sounds. They are used whenever the sounds that make up the trademark can be represented graphically.



For what product or service can a trademark be registered?
In Spain, trademarks are protected based on the registered classes, taking into account the Nice Classification, which is a classification that groups products and services into 45 different classes: 34 for products and 11 for services.

Each class comprises a series of products or services that are related to each other, for example, class 32 corresponds to: Beers; mineral and carbonated waters and other non-alcoholic beverages; fruit drinks and juices; syrups and other preparations for making beverages.
