Involving well-known Dutch people

Another way we distinguish ourselves: Famous Friday . Every Friday we invite a famous Dutch person to be our newsreader for a day. This could be a popular YouTuber, a scoring rapper or a top model. Since the start of this section in 2015, at least seventy Dutch celebrities have visited us! The concept ensures that we can bring news closer to our target group in a different way. They like to hear that a news video is narrated by someone they are a fan of, rather than by someone they don't know. In addition, it gives us the opportunity to discover new followers, via the fan base of the guest. A win-win situation for us and the Dutch celebrity.

Hashtags, emojis and sharp, personal reactions. That is a short description of our tone of voice. At NOS Kort, we communicate with our target group in a completely different way than other NOS brands, such as the Achtuurjournaal and NOS.nl. We try to communicate with our followers in the same way as they do with each other. That is not easy, because you can easily miss the mark. My colleagues and I also spot what the current trends, virals and challenges are. We use that knowledge to be on the same page with our followers from the account. In this way, they must get the feeling that we are one of them.

Only he or she will see that response, the other followers will not. Furthermore, we encourage people to discuss with each other in a polite manner!

No manual, but feeling

Despite the fact that I am 28 years old and therefore fall well outside the target group, I dare say with certainty that I am still right in the middle of the target group. I know what they watch, what they listen to and what they talk about with their friends. We do this by actively monitoring what and how they respond under our videos, what they post on Instagram themselves (we follow about 6600 young people, that number is growing after the #volgmijnoskort posts ) and how they use other channels such as YouTube and Snapchat.
