YouTuber Casey Neistat protests against the "inappropriate content" algorithm

Post by pappu636 »

YouTube has developed a new algorithm to prevent content about drugs, aggressive language, nudity or hate speech from generating advertising revenue. This decision was taken by the platform after receiving several complaints about racist videos and content from the self-proclaimed Islamic State . But this algorithm, which demonetizes "inappropriate content" is creating problems for YouTubers and Internet star Casey Neistat wanted to denounce it in a video.

Neistat, who has over eight million subscribers to his channel, has posted a soapbox video criticizing the platform’s lack of support for the creative community , according to thedrum.com . In “Demonetized, demonetized, demonetized,” Niestat accuses many YouTubers of being unfairly demonatized by the algorithm. “I really don’t feel like YouTube does enough to take care of its community. I just don’t agree with them . ”

One of the videos that has temporarily suffered from this demonetization has been the interview that Casey Neistat did with the president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo , last week. According to the YouTuber, many of his colleagues have suffered a drop in income of around 80% , following the tightening of the advertising policy.

One of the problems with the algorithm is that it detects “inappropriate” topics, but not afghanistan phone number focus . Thus, if the videos help people with suicidal thoughts or people who have been abused, they suffer demonetization. This is the case of Matan Uziel and her channel “Real Women, Real Stories” , which gathers testimonies from women who have been physically and psychologically abused.

"We know it's been a tough few months, and we're working hard to improve our systems. We're making progress, but we know there's still a lot more to do ," a YouTube spokesperson told the BBC .

But Neistat isn't just criticizing YouTube. He also offers suggestions for how things could change . These include allowing creators to sell their own ads directly and offering the opportunity to earn Google shares .
