What are the main challenges facing the maritime sector?

Post by Bappy10 »

The maritime sector is one of the most reluctant to change, but even so it cannot be left behind in digitalisation and technological advancement.

In a new episode of the Business section of Podcast 101 moderated by Sandra Navarro, Head of Startegy at Flat 101, we have been able to learn about the new avenues of innovation and change in the maritime sector and what they contribute to the world.

As Cristina says, the idea behind bound4blue is to “ power croatia number data the world with the wind . ” Cristina Aleixendri , Co-Founder and COO of the company, is an aeronautical engineer and has been selected as one of the best entrepreneurs under 40 years old. Thanks to her desire to solve problems, the maritime sector can prosper in many ways that benefit us all, since the transport of goods is an important point when it comes to setting prices for consumers.

To reduce costs and advance the digitalization of ships, bound4blue installs rigid sails made of metal up to 26 meters in cargo ships; these structures are automated and, in addition to being hardware, they have control software that, through sensors installed throughout the ship, allows monitoring and collecting data that is analyzed to continue improving the operation and automation of the sails.

It could be generalised that the main challenges to be overcome in this sector are based on functional, economic and environmental issues.

“Only 20% of the world fleet collects data, and many of them don’t know how to analyse it,” says Cristina. It is important to have figures and to be able to monitor routes to know how much a ship consumes and how it operates , in order to improve its systems and thus reduce costs. But this is not possible without internet connection on ships, another obstacle for the sector. Without connection, it is also not possible for ships and ports to be coordinated to speed up the bureaucratic process of entry and exit of ships, something that increases fuel consumption since long waits in ports burn unnecessary fuel.
