However, when operating in a larger ecosystem, it is also important to ensure that the health of the WordPress project is sustainable and moving in a positive direction.
We are no longer a young ecosystem. WordPress is 21 years old.
There will be natural transitions as employees retire or move on to focus on other areas of their lives.
The same goes for WordPress product and agency owners who want to exit and move on to the next chapter of their lives.
This creates a vacuum that can lead to an unsustainable future that harms us all .
In times like these, it is more important than ever that we can get the focus on promoting the Community .
We need to work together, encourage positivity and show appreciation for anyone who contributes in any way.
“A house divided against itself cannot stand.” – Abraham Lincoln
I was inspired to contribute more after my conversation with Matt Mullenweg (co-founder of WordPress) at the brazil telemarketing data TED conference in Vancouver in 2022, where we both passionately shared our love for the WordPress community.
No one contributes more to the WordPress ecosystem than Matt himself. Automattic donates more than 4,000 hours per week (more than 208,000 per year) to the open source project.
Ecosystem Thinking for Open Source
I believe that symbiotic mutualistic contributions are essential for a healthy ecosystem, because all parties involved benefit.
Let's continue to work together to contribute to WordPress and help democratize publishing and commerce around the world.
As always, I want to thank you for your continued support of WPBeginner and we look forward to continuing to serve you for years to come.
I really like Matt's thinking on Ecosystem Thinking
